About Wolfram Institute

History and Motivations

The Wolfram Institute for Computational Foundations of Science is a nonprofit research organization for the computational approach to fundamental science. Our goal is to develop research programs that are theoretically sound and computationally operable in areas including, but not limited to, physics, mathematics, philosophy/logic, biology, cognitive science/artificial intelligence and economics.

We are building on the technology stack developed by Wolfram Research in the last few decades and the intellectual legacy of Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science and the Wolfram Physics Project. Research conducted at the Wolfram Institute typically employs methods and techniques from hypergraph theory, computational systems, symbolic computation and automata theory.

The Wolfram Institute is committed to the practice of open science; we aim to provide innovative solutions to scientific education, communication and publishing. We are in constant communication and interaction with a global community of collaborators and enthusiasts who follow our activity and participate in our regular events.

The Wolfram Institute was initially launched by Stephen Wolfram and James Boyd in October 2022.
